Been Awhile

We have not posted anything in some time now, so let me get everyone caught up. Katie's car was broken into while she was at the gym. Someone busted out the passenger side window and took her purse and another bag. We've taken all the steps to get all new ID, cards, etc. People that "smash and grab" make no sense to me. These days, we had everything cancelled in under an hour from the crime. They got nothing usable to them. They took pictures, a school book, and her planner for work. If said person had one ounce of whatever you wanna call it, they would at least leave that kinda stuff on the doorstep, they have our address (which freaks Katie out). I kinda like the idea myself. It'll give me a chance to field test the new Glock. Other than that, not a whole lot going on. I was put in a class for the next two weeks on collecting evidence, processing a scene, yada yada yada, all in an Iraqi setting. Same old thing, different SOP, new setting. It is a "train the trainer" course. After the two weeks, I'll have to teach a class to my unit on how to do it.

Sidenote: Baseball season starts at 0200 Alaska time Tuesday Morning.

Never Again

Last night Katie said she wanted to go on a "date". So we went to dinner at The Pump House. I was feeling like a steak and having never had a filet mignon, I ordered one (for the first and last time). When I first cut into the side, it was pretty pink. Not being one to complain I just ate the first couple pieces of the edge, but then got curious. So I cut into the center and it about ran away from the table. Again I wasnt going to complain, I just wasnt going to eat it. However, our waitress caught a glimpse of it and came and took it back. I dont know if it was a new cook or what, but apparently they had the heat to high. The outside was getting dark, but the middle was not getting anything again. When the waitress cleared our table she noticed that I still hadnt eaten it and she took it off our bill, which got her a nice big tip. Katie did like her halibut, but thats always a good safe play in AK.

Update

Its been a few busy days since the last post, so let me get everyone caught up. I took Katie to the indoor range and got her registered on Sunday. She had some problems at first, but improved quickly and did much better by the end of our time. She was shooting Vanover's 9mm and had to go back to the counter to buy more ammo, so I think she was having fun. It has been an eventful, yet short week at work. We were at the mock city all day Mon, Tue, and Wed. It was supposed to last until late every night but we were usually outta there around 8pm. However, we did have to show up at 5am on Tue to do some showing off pt with Green Bay Packers new starting QB Aaron Rodgers. He needed a haircut but it was a nice gesture on his part to come hang out for a little while. Between the pt smoker and the craziness going on at the mock city, everyone was very tired and sore. Have no fear, the four day weekend is here! We were given Thu, Fri, Sat, and Sun off. Looking forward to just chillin and getting some stuff done around the house. Katie is extremely jealous at this point.

Ice Festival

Not as good as last years lineup, but still impressive. Katie did get some cotton candy, which was probably the highlight for her. To see photos of most of the sculptures go to http://www.icealaska.com/.

Getting Older

Getting closer to 30. Had a great day hanging out with Katie. She took the day off and I pretty much did too (unofficially). The guys in my squad covered for me while I was gone. Got a happy birthday from the Reese and received a great/depressing message from Jase. The girls (Addie and Carleigh) sang happy birthday to me, and I realized just how much I am missing out on. AWOL was sounding pretty good at the time. Only 927 more days, not counting terminal leave I can take at the end. Tick Tock....

Check out Dad on YouTube

This past summer there was a guy working in the saw shed at Kings Island who was a student majoring in photography. Over the summer he took photographs of the saw shed crew and the wooden roller coasters at KI (The Beast, The Racer, The Son of Beast, and The Beastie) and created a slide show about it.

Click on the link to check it out! Dad's moment of fame is about 3 minutes into the slide show.

Ice Festival

Here is a link to the World Art Ice Sculpting Championships held in Fairbanks. You are able to view photos of the single block sculptures, but the multi-block sculptures will not be done until Friday. We are going to go next Saturday to see them all.
